House in patriot games
Oh, I see now how the way I worded it is kind of confusing. I just edited that to make it more clear. Thanks, Kim! I remember loving the house in this movie. I love your site, I get lost in it for hours. I always loved the house. But it is a lonely setting. Yes, Harrison Ford is a great actor. I appreciate him in every movie. She pointed it out, saying that it was the house from the movie.
I wish I could remember more! But I do remember that the house, and its location, were absolutely lovely. The sets for the interior are very homey, with clutter and ugly appliances and things people use every day. TV shows and movies nowadays are so uber-decorated, it looks like the people live in a magazine!!
There was one shot in the movie where you can see some cliffs in the background and I matched it with an old photo of the park where you can see the same cliff outline. Look up Marineland, Racho Palos Verdes and in some of the park shots you can see the same outline of the cliffs in the background. That's when Jack decides to rejoin the CIA, and they try to find the man before he makes another attempt.
Let the Games Begin. Rated R for strong sexuality, and for language and violence. Did you know Edit. Trivia The attack on members of the Royal Family at the beginning of the film was inspired by a similar true-life attempt to kidnap Princess Anne on March 20, She was in her car when a man shot her guard and driver. She was subsequently helped by a passerby who attacked the criminal and saved her. Goofs While it is true that the average British police officer does not carry a firearm, there is no way that a convicted high-profile IRA terrorist would be escorted without an armed guard.
You know on second thought maybe I won't have a drink with you Jack Ryan : Fine. Alternate versions The German TV-version has got a few cuts. User reviews Review. Top review. Good action flick. If I were to make a quick summary of this movie, it would be "a good, but not great, action flick.
What it was intended to be was entertaining, and it lived up to this expectation. Harrison Ford is the master of remaining as low-key as possible. He has had so many films where he can over-emphasize, over-dramatize, and simply over-act. Ford has the maturity to keep this from happening, and he does so again in this film. Jackson, and Anne Archer. For an action flick, acting is much above average. It was also suspenseful I thought the ending had a nice build-up and climax.
I realize this is different from the book's ending This brings up a big point in movie-watching: Comparing a movie to a book is the worst thing you can do. They are two completely different genres. More importantly, as I said before, they are two different visions. While it is true that the average British police officer does not carry a firearm, there is no way that a convicted high-profile IRA terrorist would be escorted without an armed guard.
Jack could not therefore be knighted by the British. In the book however, an exception was made because he saved a member of the Royal Family, but this is not mentioned in the film, and in reality is something not even the Queen can do. Since it would in fact be honorary, Ryan could not - and would not - be addressed as "Sir John". He would simply be addressed as Dr. When the police are running to the IRA kidnapping attempt whistles are heard. Police haven't whistled for assistance since the middle of the 20th Century, and tend to use modern items like radios nowadays.
When the helicopters are approaching the Libya camp, they both have all lights switched on. Furthermore, the SAS soldiers tabbing in do so on a dune ridge, sticking out like sore thumbs. Normal procedure is to stay in ravines or other depressed areas.
His wife is okay, but Sally's condition is unknown at this point. On several occasions, Jack looks out the window, and sees that the local press vultures are swarming all over the place. The goof is, that the reporters and their news vans are camped right on top of the "H" symbol on the hospital heli-pad.
Hospital security would never allow this, as the heli-pad must be kept completely clear, in anticipation of future inbound emergency flights. The terrorists use night-vision goggles during a storm. As NVG's work by amplifying the ambient light, they would be blinded every time that the lightning flashed.
During the attack on the training camp, the view from the satellite is always from directly overhead. The angle should change over time, and when it no longer has a direct view the angle should be nearly horizontal.
Knight Commander of the [Royal] Victorian Order. The insignia is a neck badge and a breast star. When Lord Holmes shows the insignia to Ryan at his home, it is just a small round silver medal, the insignia of the Royal Victorian Medal R. After the London shooting at the beginning of the movie, a new reporting crew and a press photographer are both seen reporting on the incident from inside the taped off police cordon.
This would never be allowed to happen as the purpose of the cordon is to control access to the scene and preserve evidence. The tasks of satellites which direction and at what speed is classified above top secret, and their tasks are random and always changing so as to prevent detection; thus, there is absolutely no way that "they probably know better than we do" the terrorists could have known at what time the satellites passed over their camp in Libya.
Jack Ryan could not have avoided the assassin by jumping behind a car because that particular street near the U. Naval Academy does not allow parking. Train departure announcements on the London Underground, if made at all, do not list the train's stops except where these might vary from one train to another. Miller would have been taken to prison by helicopter, with an armed escort.
During the attack on the training camp, the view from the satellite is cut off and the image is replaced with static. This is not due to lack of line of sight to the ground target, as the view on screen was from overhead; it's because there is no radio contact from the satellite. That should have been arranged in any case, as the loss of signal occurs just after the raid is being completed; if the team had been delayed in reaching the camp by just a couple of minutes the satellite would not have been able to cover it with a short contact period.
After Dennis Cooley is unable to fire the weapon Sean Miller takes it from him, clicks off the safety and fires at his feet on automatic. Sean however clicks the safety down two clicks rather than one which on an AK47 selects semi-automatic not automatic. Ryan requests his CIA superiors to re-task several satellites. This is outrageous when you understand re-tasking a satellite much less even multiple ones can only be done over a live war theater. At the beginning of the movie, there is a game of Monopoly being played.
You have to build evenly, you cannot build a hotel on the Strand, with only two houses on the Trafalgar Square for example. Also the property card for Old Kent Road sits in the bank tray, but a player must own it, as it has a Hotel and incorrectly another house on it.
The rent for landing on Oxford Street with a hotel is , not thats for 4 houses as called out in the game. When Dennis Cooley is in the desert begging with the IRA members to go on the mission Sean Miller tosses him a AK47 to test fire, when Dennis cannot operate the gun due to the safety been switched on, Miller takes it back and fires it at Dennis's feet, despite the AK47's powerful rounds no dirt or dust is thrown up from the bullet impacts.
Following Miller's trial, a newspaper front page is shown, reporting Ryan's foiling of the assassination attempt. However the trial would have been months after the event, allowing plenty of time for the story to have been reported before then.
She pronounces it "row" like row your boat , when it is really rhymes with "cow". After Sean Miller shoots at Dennis Cooley's feet, he can be heard manually chambering the weapon again before shooting Dennis. He is on a roll. Still, it has to survive in the overheated summer market, between the high-octane explosions of Lethal Weapon 3 and the comic-book exaggerations of Batman Returns. Instead it encountered nearly constant turbulence, beginning even before the project got off the ground.
After a showdown with Alec Baldwin, the dashing young Jack Ryan of the first movie, Paramount performed the risky maneuver of replacing him with the more battle-proven Ford. Another crisis emerged midway through shooting, when Clancy suddenly went ballistic, accusing the filmmakers of sabotaging his novel.
Harrison Ford has just finished a stroll around his acre property outside Jackson Hole, Wyo. The jagged Grand Tetons, still carrying their winter snows, loom in the distance. He has conferred with the landscapers sprucing up his front lawn and the workers building two guest cabins. He proudly points out the additions he built himself on the two-story, white clapboard house that he designed.
